With a total of 34 international speakers and 290 international experts attending, the annual LMS Vehicle Conference is considered to be one of today's leading focused network events in the vehicle engineering community.
The 2012 Conference focused on the frontloading of vehicle systems engineering as a way to deliver superior brand performance.
Scope
290 international experts from the car manufacturing industry gathered on 18-19 April in the Munich Kempinski Airport hotel in order to stay on top of ever evolving engineering technologies. Attendees included representatives from 115 companies, representing a wide range of international car makers, OEM's and suppliers.
The conference theme
"The next few years will be marked by a new paradigm shift: model-based systems engineering", said Dr. ir. Urbain Vandeurzen, LMS Chairman and CEO in his opening address to the conference community, explaining this year's conference theme. "LMS has pioneered hybrid engineering, combining the best of physical simulation with virtual simulation. This has advanced simulation to support multi-attribute engineering from concept to final hardware. Today we also pioneer in MBSE, making it possible to optimize mechanics, electronics and software simultaneously as an integrated mechatronics system. Combined, hybrid engineering and model-based systems engineering enables the full frontloading of functional performance engineering. This offers the possibility to translate mechatronics systems' complexity into unique brand value for the customer."
Keynotes
This year's Vehicle Conference also welcomed three keynote speakers standing on the front line of change in the automotive industry.
Dr. Guglielmo Caviasso, Head of Vehicle Integration and Validation, R&D, Fiat Group Automobiles presented his ideas about design management and his vision on performance management in the very competitive small car market, driven by complexity and speed of change.
Dr. Christof M. Weber, Senior manager Durability and Bench testing at Daimler Trucks offered an insight into the peculiar durability engineering challenge of adapting vehicles to the different market en customer needs in the global truck market. Dr. Weber also presented the Daimler answer to this challenge: the customer oriented Application Specific Testing approach.
Mr. Ryusaku Sawada, Project General Manager, Engine Planning Department at the Toyota Motor Corporation talked about need for integrated models at the planning stage to answer the challenge of optimizing total vehicle performance.
34 speakers
This years conference welcomed 34 speakers from companies such as John Deere, Adam Opel AG, Daimler AG, Volkswagen AG, Volvo, BMW AG, Renault, Fraunhofer LBF, hofer GmBH, Fluid Systems, Autoneum Management AG, Valeo, China FAW Group Corporation, TBC, Cummins Power generation, IFP EN, Landi Renzo SpA, Faurecia Acoustics, Hutchinson Transmission, MANN+HUMMEL GmBH, ETA Srl, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Magna Powertrain AG & Co KG, Magna Steyr FZT, Imamoter-CNR
