Eight firms in the france pavilion at the Taipei Cycle Show 2017

[10 Feb 2017, Hong Kong] Some of France's most experienced manufacturers will be exhibiting at the Taipei Cycle Show from March 22 to 25, 2017. They will be accompanied by UNION Sport & Cycle ?the new trade organization for firms operating in the cycling industry ?and by Business France ?a national agency supporting the international development of the French economy, which has been running the French Pavilion since 2010.
- Bicycle Market in France
Some 130 million bicycles are made every year worldwide, in other words more than four bikes per second. China, India, the European Union, Taiwan and Japan account for 87% of global production. On average, global bicycle sales generate almost EUR 33 billion. Much of recent growth has been driven by the rising popularity of electric bikes or EPACs (electric power-assisted cycles). It is estimated that global sales of these bicycles will reach 48 million by 2018. China has more bikes than any other country in the world (430 million).
In 2015, the bicycle market in France ?including parts and accessories ?reached an estimated value of EUR 1.7 billion, and posted turnover growth of 4.5%. The rising sales and record-breaking turnover testify to the sector's vitality. In France, almost three million bikes were sold in 2015, for an average price of EUR 321. That is EUR 14 more than in 2014, reflecting the growing demand in France for high-quality bicycles. In terms of volume, 2015 again saw a double-figure increase in sales of electric power-assisted cycles (EPACs), which exceeded the symbolic milestone of 100 0000 units.

The French exhibitors, who are long-time participants in the Cycle Show, are noted for their often unique and patented innovations and high-tech products. They invest in R&D so that they can continue to provide demanding athletes with ever more innovative products bearing the Origine France Garantie (Guaranteed French Origin) logo. Those returning to the show in 2015 include CORIMA, with its carbon composite parts and its new range of wheels; BIKE MICHELIN, whose tires set the standard in every cycling discipline; and STRONGLIGHT, a specialist in the full range of bicycle components.
SPANNINGA's bicycle lights are the result of continuous and extensive research in new technologies, optics, and electronics; by analyzing consumer use patterns, it is able to adapt its products for all types of bicycle to ensure optimal safety and visibility. Multi-award winner TIME SPORT makes pedals, frames and accessories for all types of bicycle. VELOX and ZEFAL both design and make bicycle accessories, and enjoy an international reputation.
Lastly, there is UNION Sport et Cycle, which unites and supports the cycling industry in France. It participates, for example, in the development of European and international regulations for the industry. UNION Sport & Cycle was formed in 2016 as a result of a merger between three long-standing trade associations (FIFAS, FPS and UNIVELO). Besides officially representing the cycling industry, it promotes the interests of all manufacturers and retailers in the sports, leisure, cycling and mobility sectors, on both the national and international stages.
France boasts a broad spectrum of expertise, from the design to the assembly and manufacture of sports products and leisure equipment. Some firms specialize in the distribution of bicycles and of parts, accessories and equipment for cyclists; some rent out sports products and leisure equipment, and can be subject to strong seasonal trends. |
